"See?" Allison said, pulling a shiny black button-up from the rack and presenting it to her friend. "You'd wear this, right?"
Karen looked at it for a moment, dragging her foot back and forth across the short carpet, then jerked her shoulders upwards in a shrug.
"I guess." she responded, looking around the store.
Ally dropped her arms and sighed heavily.
"Karen, you can't just wear t-shirts all the time!"
The curly-haired girl's brow furrowed.
"Why not?"
"Just.." The redhead's hand waved wildly in the air as she struggled for words. "What if you have to go somewhere nice? Don't you want to look presentable?!"
Karen raised her eyebrows and opened her mouth, then closed it.
"No."
Her friend exhaled slowly, tilting her head. "It's just...I mean..." She put the shirt back on the rack and placed her hand lightly on Karen's shoulder.
"You look fine. And I know you're...comfortable like that. Maybe we could just work in some variety? You know, different clothes for different occasions?"
Karen looked at her feet and shrugged, then reached out and rubbed the material of the shirt between her fingers.
"I guess so." She looked back at her fair-skinned friend. "It feels nice."
A grin spread over Ally's face.
"It does, doesn't it?" She reached out to touch the shirt too, her gaze flickering back to her friend. "Do you want to try it on? I mean...it won't take long and I promise I'll only make you try on this one thing..."
Karen interrupted her with a laugh and a sideways glance.
"I'll try it on, Ally."
Ally's blue eyes widened. "Really? Are you sure? I mean, you really don't have to..."
Suddenly her mouth was covered by her friend's hand.
"Ally, shut up. I'll try it on." Karen took the cursed shirt from the rack and shoved the taller girl towards the dressing room. "Now hurry up before I change my mind."

Aww, I feel a bit sorry for Karen. Having other people choose your clothes for you can be a real pain. Hopefully Ally has good taste in clothes :)

This post was inspired by reluctant shopping trips with my Mom when I was about 16. Karen doesn't much care about clothes, she knows what she's comfortable in and isn't interested in anything else. Ally means well, but she can be meddlesome.

Thanks for reading!
