Mari watched her brother bring Tiffany a cup filled with chamomile tea. She smiled as he placed on the table.
Tiffany looked up. She was a little pale, but her hair was neatly combed.

“So how are things going at school, Mari?” Tiffany asked.

Mari grimaced. Why did everyone always bring up school? She had plenty of other things going for her, but school was all they seemed to be focused on.

“It’s alright. Our yearly tests are coming up, so I’ve been studying for those.”

“You better pass ‘em,” Julio said sitting down beside Tiffany.

“They aren’t pass or fail tests,” Mari snapped back. Julio grinned before putting his arm around Tiffany.

“So how far along are you? Are you craving pickles yet?”

Tiffany laughed. “I’m about three months along. No cravings yet, just this dang morning sickness.”

Mari nodded.

“So Mari, how’s that boy doing? You know the blonde one?”

“Daniel,” she said supplying his name.

“Yeah Dan.”

“No, it’s Daniel. He doesn’t like to be called by nicknames.”

Julio laughed and put up his hands. “Okay, Daniel then. He’s graduating this year right?”

Mari gave her brother a look. Why was he asking all these questions?

“Yeah, he’s graduating.”

“Is he planning on going to college?”

“Damn what’s with all these questions, Julio? You aren’t Dad.”

Julio frowned and shook his head. “I’m just trying to get to know you better, Mari. It seems like I don’t talk to you anymore.”

Mari stood up. “Oh yeah and whose fault is that?”

She glanced at Tiffany, who was looking straight at her. Mari glared at her before walking out of the living room.

“Where are you going, Mari?”

Julio hurriedly stood up, but Mari had already slammed the door behind her. Julio sighed and leaned against the door.

“She seems to be a little wired up,” Tiffany said from the couch.

Julio nodded. “Yeah she does.”

“She’s probably just stressed about the tests. She’ll come around.”

Julio smiled. “I hope so.”

Tiffany smiled and sipped her tea.
