New Feature : the Pint

I've been thinking a lot lately about getting started writing again and about coming back to RaTs and about giving my whole main canon an overhaul, and this has led me to think about a new feature I would like to implement here.

One of the great points to RaTs is that we can and do jump all over the place, tackling our canons in random bits and pieces and putting together whatever part makes the most sense to us at the moment and so we can all be a lot more productive than we would if held to a more rigid system. But this has also proven a hindrance when it comes to reading and keeping track of other people's canons. It's sometimes hard to know who's who or what's what or where the parts fit together when all you have are bits and pieces, and this can be frustrating for both author and reader.

So, I would like to propose this : the pint. A pint is a complete short story or chapter. The length is at your discretion, but the content should be more than just a scene or sketch. It should have a beginning and ending (of course that ending could be a cliffhanger). It should be relatively polished in terms of planning and editing. And it may contain parts or the entirety of one or more shorter pieces you have already posted or it may be completely original.

The idea here is that if you are approaching your canon randomly or using prompts for notes, exercises or small scenes, you can fit them together into a more readable and easier to index sort of finished product.

Pints would have a special tag - like binges - and a graphic to put in your header if you choose to do so, so that attention can be drawn to them, as they would likely be important parts in anyone's canon.

Any thoughts, concerns, questions about this idea?

It sounds like fun. A nice incentive to write more. One of my New Years Resolution is to actively works on all my claims, so this my help with that.

This sounds like a great idea! I've been meaning to make bigger pieces in the form of short stories, so that would definitely be one motivation to do so. And chapters/short stories would definitely help clear up who's who in a canon and what not. So yeah, I'm all for the pint :)

Hmm, interesting idea. How would it work for those of us who already use RaTs to post their main canon? If you look at my index (sorry I can't link it, on my phone) you'll see it's arranged in numbered arcs. Those are my main canon and I'm posting them in order. Each one is a coherent story, but they're broken down into multiple pieces. I don't think that would count, but what would?

Sounds like a good idea. One question though, would the pint count retroactively? I have several pieces from Mattea that would count.

I like the idea.
