Rainbow Sherbet #7

Author: Regret
Rating: PG
Story: Three Graces
Challenge: Rainbow Sherbet #7 - Brown
Extras: Pocky
Word Count: 100
Summary: Breathe deep, count to ten.
Notes: My first thought for brown was the colour when you close your eyes...

One, two, three...
Heart racing. Pulse pounding. The skin of his eyelids warm brown like wet sand.
Four, five, six...
Wet sand and the rising scent of putridity. A mercenary, a discussion. Blood. Frown; dismiss the memory. Breathe.
Seven, eight...
A footstep. Just one. He forced himself to ignore it. Always braver in his own head; he couldn’t stop the smile. Breathe damnit.
Nine...
His heart finally agreed to remain in place, until: a short cough. A burst of terror, all composure lost. David turned on his heel, hands up and defensive.
Ten.
A mercenary.
“You’re dead!”
“Clearly I’m not.”

Well, yes, I would say not dead would cover it.

Very nicely written. My favourite line is Always braver in his own head; he couldn’t stop the smile. :D
