Title: The Crash
Summary: A poem telling how the quartet arrived at Isangia

Back to School Challenge for Poetry

Waves crash onto the shore
A lone boat spins out of control
Wind rages, battering the boat
The boat heads toward the rocky shore
No one seems to care
Everyone hides
Keep the latches tight
Sleep through the night
Sleep through the storm

Sun rises
The sailors awake
Arguments ensue
Who's side would you take?

Barbara's?
She didn't know
It was an accident

Ewan's?
She should have known
It was in the book

Talbot and Sheehan
Try to bring peace
Unfortunately
Peace doesn't last long

Back to School Challenge for Poetry

“She's gone
Out the gate
Down the path
Through the woods”

Be quiet

“She's gone
Abandoned you
Left you all alone”

It's not true
She's coming back

“Oh please
Who would want to come back to you?”

She's coming back

“Worthless
Careless
Clumsy
Oaf of a girl
Why would she come back?”

She loves me
She wouldn't leave me

“Oh but she has
You're all alone
She's abandoned you
She knows
She's better off
Without you.”

She wouldn't leave
Not forever

“Are you sure about that?”

...

“Maybe you should
Give her an early yule present
A life without you.”

Title: The Dare
Summary: Ewan dares Barbara

Back to School Challenge for Poetry

Barbara, I challenge you
This dare is just for you
Pour this drink into a glass
Then have a sip or two

Barbara, I dared you
You must see it through
Just follow the directions
I already gave to you

Barbara, trust in me
It will not hurt, a lot
Or are you just afraid
Like I've always thought?

Barbara, come on
It's just one little drink
It will not make you drunk
If that is what you think

Barbara, I can't believe
You just dumped that on me
And in the common area
For everyone to see

Barbara, I'm sorry
For trying to force you
Into drinking alcohol
Now, aren't you sorry too?

Back to School Challenge for Poetry

Outside
Wind batters the cottage
Inside
Thoughts batter my head

Outside
Rain comes crashing down
Soaking the earth
Inside
Tears flow freely
Sobs wrack my body

Outside
The sky begins to clear
Birds sing once more
Inside
Tears stop
But only because
There are no more

Star of light
Shine bright
Guide me through
The black of night
Fill me with
Courageous might
Give me strength
To win this fight
Bright star of the night
