Title: Cracking of the Shell
Summary: It's time for the creature to emerge from the shell.
A/N: So remember when I said I'd give the other planets the spotlight? Yeah. This is a not-so-distant outcome of this piece, so right now I'm piecing together what had happened inbetween that piece and this. For now, enjoy some more Mars and Olive :D
---
"Mars! Mars!"

Olive sped through the living room and sailed towards Mars and his arm, to which she began tugging and dragging it towards where she came from.

"Hey, slow down, little one," said Mars, who at that moment had his face stuffed with bread and strawberry jam. "What's going on?"

"The egg, it's hatching! Oh man, it's hatching, Mars, it's hatching!"

Olive had little time to catch her breath when Mars lit up and took her outside, moving at such a pace that made Olive's run seem like a fast walk. He rushed out into the front lawn and saw the egg quaking in its spot, hopping a few inches off the ground inbetween each tremble.

"What d'you think's inside of it, Mars?" Olive stared on with wide-eyed curiosity par for her age. She flinched backwards on one instance of the egg looking like it was going to fall over and shatter in front of them, but that did little to stifle her awe and wonder.

A temptation to inch closer drew upon Mars, but the ruse left him when bits and pieces of the shell cracked off the top. Small, fine lines ran down the speckled, red-and-brown surface of the egg, and little by little, fragments began falling off, slowly from the top and then crawling to a halt a little above the middle. Mars and Olive kept their eyes on the top of the half, still intact, and from the small, uneasy movement--

Something was struggling to get out.

More cracks spread towards the middle, reaching down towards the base. The egg rocked back and forth and then out came the first glimpse of the creature in it--

A long, slimy green tentacle, feeling around the jagged edges of the shell.

"Is that--" Olive's mouth hung open in wordless disbelief. "Mars?"

She looked up at him and saw his eyes grow wider. At the same time, more tentacles slithered out from inside, clamped firmly onto the outside of the shell. They pressed down tight and caused the egg to crack even more, though Mars saw what was going on.

The creature tried to pull itself out of the shell.

And it did so with one swift move; the creature hung over the shell and tipped it over, causing it to crash onto the nest. Olive made a move towards it, but Mars put an arm out and stopped her. They stared at the creature and its single giant eye, darting every which way, so much to see in this brave new world. The creature coiled its dozen tentacles in and looked at the two of them.

"Say, Olive," said Mars, his eyes not straying away from the creature. "What does your mom think about a new pet?"

Oh definitely. Though it's Mars, so that sort of creature being with them kinda makes sense. XD Thanks for reading :)

Thanks! :)

Knowing Mars, they're going to keep it--training it to be obedient, though, is a different story. ;)

I would not allow that thing in my home though I can imagine Mars and other people simply deciding not to listen :P
